Brookfield's Asia head joins CapitaLand's fund management arm

Patrick Boocock, a managing partner at Brookfield Asset Management who led the firm’s investment and asset management activities in Asia, has moved to newly listed CapitaLand Investments (CLI).
Boocock (pictured) held various senior roles during his nine-year tenure at Brookfield, including CFO of the firm’s global construction business and managing director of an Australia-based natural gas transmission and distribution portfolio. Prior to Brookfield, he worked in infrastructure financing and development in Canada.
Boocock has been recruited by CLI to serve as CEO of alternative assets. The role involves building a private fund business, with an initial focus on real assets such as infrastructure and renewable energy.
CLI was formed following a restructuring of Singapore-headquartered real estate developer CapitaLand: CLI is responsible for real estate investment management, while CapitaLand Development, which is under private ownership, handles property development.
CLI had about S$119 billion ($88.2 billion) in assets under management (AUM) as of June, of 80% are in Asia. Real estate fund management assets stood at S$83 billion, held via six listed real estate investment trusts (REITs) and more than 20 private funds.
Brookfield’s AUM is $625 billion, of which $79 billion is in Asia. Real estate is the firm’s biggest asset class globally, followed by infrastructure, private equity, and renewable power. It also owns Oaktree Capital, which has $156 billion under management.
