China industrial robotics start-up raises $61m
Youshan Capital and China Merchants Capital have led a RMB395 million ($61 million) Series B round for Han's Robot, a China-based manufacturer of industrial robots.
Additional contributions came from CNPC Capital, TopoScend Capital and Founder Securities Capital. The proceeds will go towards scaling up production, R&D, and business development, according to a statement.
Han's Robot was established in 2017 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shenzhen-listed Han's Laser Technology Group. It has a staff of more than 100 and a production base in Shenzhen’s Bao'an District. In 2019, a German unit was formed to source robotics expertise out of Europe.
The company primarily produces two kinds of collaborative robot, plus accompanying software: the affordable Elfin series and the high-end MAiRA (multi-sensing intelligent robot assistant) series. The latter can carry loads of up to 18 kilograms, has a reach of 1.6 meters, and a top speed of 4.5 m per second. It is equipped with a six-dimensional force sensor that can respond to changes in forces as small as 0.1 newtons and provides updates every millisecond.
"Our ultimate goal is to develop a truly capable ‘finished’ intelligent robot that does not require secondary development. A robot is like a consumer electronics product such as a mobile phone. Users only need to choose one according to their needs and they can use it directly," said Guangneng Wang, founder of Han's Robot.
"To realize this vision, we must first achieve the extreme accuracy and safety at the hardware level, and then more importantly, achieve the best level of intelligence."
Elsewhere in the collaborative robot space, Jaka Robotics raised RMB300m in Series C funding in January. The company is a spinout from Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s robotics research lab. It features in automated production across the automobile, electronics, manufacturing, new energy, and medical devices spaces, serving clients such as Toyota, Honda, and Volkswagen.
Hina Group served as financial advisor for the Han's Robot Series B.
