Allen & Overy strengthens Asia fund formation capabilities

Allen & Overy has recruited James Ford from O’Melveny & Myers as a partner in its Asia Pacific funds and asset management group. He continues to be based in Hong Kong.
Ford spent more than 16 years with O’Melveny & Myers, latterly serving as global head of the firm’s investment funds practice. He relocated from London to Hong Kong in 2011. In addition to serving as fund formation counsel to alternative investment firms on fund formation and advising LPs on fund commitment and co-investment activities, Ford worked on various secondaries transactions.
At Allen & Overy, he will have a similar remit, focusing on clients in private equity as well as those pursuing real estate, credit, and infrastructure strategies. He will do this as part of the funds and asset management group, which provides a full-service offering to fund managers and institutional investors, covering areas such as asset management, tax, regulatory issues, and litigation.
“Asia-Pacific continues to receive an increasing amount of interest from investors, as seen by the increasingly large dedicated Asia funds raised over the past couple of years. We have also seen the secondary market heat up in the current climate, so we have no doubt James’ expertise will be of great interest and value to our clients,” said Matt Huggett, global head of the funds and asset management group, in a statement.
