Monument Group recruits Japan representative

Placement agent Monument Group has appointed Hiroshi Nishimuro, formerly of Morgan Stanley, as its Japan representative to lead fundraising efforts and manage GP relationships in the country.
Nishimuro (pictured) spent 11 years with Morgan Stanley, most of them as an investment professional with Morgan Stanley Private Equity Asia, where he was responsible for coverage of Japan and contributed to deals elsewhere in the region. Latterly, Nishimuro served as an alternatives product specialist with Morgan Stanley Investment Management.
He began his career as an equity analyst with Goldman Sachs and then had a five-year stint with Japanese mid-market buyout firm Unison Capital.
“With Hiroshi’s experience across a broad range of alternative investments, we are confident he will prove to be a valuable contributor furthering the meaningful relationships Monument Group has cultivated with investors and general partners in Japan over many years,” Niklas Amundsson, a partner and head of Asia Pacific at Monument Group, said in a statement.
Monument’s previous representative director in Japan was Kay Sano, who departed last year after two years with the firm. Sano, formerly an investor relations executive for Bain Capital in Japan, continues to run J.Bridge, a boutique private capital advisory business she established in 2017.
Monument has assisted GPs around the world in raising more than $116 billion across 112 funds since 1994. The firm established an Asia presence in 2014, opening offices in Hong Kong and then Tokyo. It also has teams in Boston and London.
