WI Harper backs Hong Kong financial services player
WI Harper Group has led a $20 million Series B round for Hong Kong financial services provider EMQ.
Abu Dhabi Capital, AppWorks, DG Ventures, Hard Yaka, January Capital, Quest Venture Partners, SparkLabs Taipei, Vectr Fintech Partners, VS Partners, and Indonesia's Intudo Ventures also contributed. It follows a $6.5 million Series A in late 2017 featuring Intudo.
EMQ describes itself as Asia’s leading financial settlement network, with a focus on fast, affordable, and transparent cross-border transfers that adhere to complex regulations and compliance standards worldwide. Additional capacity includes e-commerce, merchant settlement, procurement, remittance, and payroll-related services.
The Series B has been positioned as a significant milestone in its next phase of strategic growth, which will include delivery of network infrastructure aimed at streamlining the complexities of processing real-time international payments across all aspects of the payments ecosystem. The fresh capital will also be applied to accelerating an international growth agenda and licensing activities globally.
“As we look to the future, we will continue to invest significantly towards constant innovation of our cross-border solutions and compliance capabilities, to deliver additional value to the global payments ecosystem and capitalize on the explosive growth of cross-border B2B payments market – valued to exceed $218 trillion by 2022,” Edward Liu, a partner at WI Harper, said in a statement.
