Australia cybersecurity start-up receives $47.6m
Australia-based cybersecurity start-up Secure Code Warrior has secured a $47.6 million Series B round led by Goldman Sachs.
AirTree Ventures, Paladin Capital, ForgePoint Capital, and Cisco Investments also participated. The round, which is being called the largest-ever US investment in an Australian cybersecurity business, will support a US and Asia expansion starting in Oregon and Singapore, respectively.
Founded in 2015, Secure Code Warrior offers an online secure coding platform that helps developers think and act with a security mindset every day. The platform is designed to be role-specific for developers and uses a mix of gamification techniques to aid learning and increase adoption across an organization. It includes support for nearly 30 programing languages and frameworks and delivers around 3,500 training modules that cover more than 140 different software weaknesses.
"The digital enterprise and CICD [continuous integration and continuous delivery] are two major trends that are placing the application and the developer on the frontlines of the business, David Campbell, a managing director in Goldman Sachs' merchant banking division who will join the company's board, said in a statement. "Secure Code Warrior helps organizations code more securely while allowing them to maintain productivity and delivery timelines."
Secure Code Warrior claims to have more than 180 customers in 28 countries, including Commonwealth Bank, Verizon, DBS Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, ING Bank, Telstra, Motorola, and the BBC. During 2019, the company added new customers in South Korea, India, and the Philippines, as well as Argentina, Peru, Norway, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. This followed a $3.5 million Series A in 2018 provided by Paladin and AirTree.
"The new front in the cybersecurity war is being fought by software developers. Secure Code Warrior is focused on helping developers write code more securely, and they have emerged as a clear global leader in developer driven cybersecurity," James Cameron, a partner at AirTree, added. "This is one of the fastest growing software companies we've seen come out of Australia, and it's fantastic to see Australian based technology like this being exported around the globe."
