KKR announces eight promotions in Asia
Chung Ho Park, a member of KKR’s private equity team and co-head of the firm’s Korea business, has been promoted to partner level. A further seven Asia-based professionals, across different strategies, were named managing directors.
Park has been with KKR since 2009, joining the firm from TPG Capital, where he was involved in PE deals in Australia, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia. He has played a role in KKR investments such as Oriental Brewery, Ticket Monster, LS Automotive, and KCF Technologies. The latter business was exited earlier this year after a 22-month holding period, generating a gross multiple of 6.5x and a gross IRR of 175%.
There were four managing director promotions within KKR's Asia Pacific private equity business, with Hisao Iijima, Prashant Kumar, Terence Lee, and Gareth Woodbridge promoted to managing director. They are based in Tokyo, Mumbai, Singapore, and Sydney, respectively. Weiyu Tan, who executes equity and debt-related transactions as part of the Asia credit and markets team, and infrastructure specialist Hardik Shah have also become managing directors.
The final promotion was for Abhishek Kapur, who is part of KKR's Capstone operations division. Originally based in London, he now leads the Capstone team in Southeast Asia.
KKR opened its first office in Asia Pacific in 2006 and is now active in the region across private equity, infrastructure, real estate, credit, and impact investments. These strategies are supported by the capital markets and Capstone divisions. The firm recently launched its fourth pan-Asian private equity fund with a target of $12.5 billion. There are also plans for a dedicated Asia growth-stage technology vehicle.
Ahead of the new flagship fundraise, Hiro Hirano and Ashish Shastry, who lead KKR's operations in Japan and Southeast Asia, respectively, were appointed co-heads of private equity across the region. They assumed responsibility for oversight of the asset class from Ming Lu, the overall head of Asia. Lu remains the lead partner in the private equity business.
