Everstone hires former UTIMCO executive in New York
Indian and Southeast Asia-focused GP Everstone Group has hired Suneel Kaji, who was most recently part of the private markets team at University of Texas Investment Management (UTIMCO), as a managing director based in New York.
He will work on developing strategic relationships with large institutional investors, sponsors, corporates and service providers. These efforts are intended to help create an ecosystem for cross-border expansions and exit options for portfolio companies, Everstone said in a statement.
Prior to UTIMCO, Kaji was a founding partner at Accordion Capital, a co-investment affiliate of New York-based private equity consultancy Accordion Partners. Before that, he spent about five years with The Rohatyn Group, participating in PE and special situations credit investments in US and the Pacific Rim. Kaji has also worked for GEM Group, Crown Capital Group, and Salomon Brothers.
Everstone has more than $5 billion in assets under management across private equity, real estate, green infrastructure, and venture capital. The firm is currently investing its third fund, which closed at $730 million in 2015.
Last year, Everstone reorganized its global fundraising capabilities. This included the appointment of COO Sanjoy Chatterjee as head of business development and president of operations in the Americas. Taylor Lawrence was also brought in from Wellspring Partners as a managing director for business development, working out of a newly-opened New York office.
