Chinese recruitment SaaS provider Moka raises $27m
Hillhouse Capital has led a RMB180 million ($27 million) Series B round for Chinese smart recruitment solutions provider Moka.
GGV Capital, GSR Ventures and Xianghe Capital also participated. The fresh funding will be used to recruit talent, enhance R&D capabilities and expand the company's business lines.
Founded in 2015, Moka offers a software-as-a-service (SaaS) product that helps corporate customers to recruit talent. Its core technology is a smart resume analysis system, which collects and stores information on candidates in a standardized way, making it easier to identify suitable people. The company claims to have over 500 paying customers including Xiaomi, Burger King and McDonald's.
“Chinese companies have expanded rapidly in the last few years due to strong economic growth. However, their organizational and managerial capabilities remain weak due to low levels of digitalization within human resources operations. I’ve seen more companies become aware of this problem and look to make changes, so I’m bullish on the prospects for this market,” said Oulun Zhao, a co-founder of Moka.
Before establishing the company, Zhao worked at American peer-to-peer carsharing company Turo. His co-founder Guoxing Li was an employee at Facebook in the US before returning to China.
Companies like Moka are benefitting from rising labor costs in China. It means companies are increasingly willing to outsource functions as they seek better solutions for workforce management. Other investment activity in this space includes SaaS provider WorkTrans raising RMB160 million in the first tranche of a Series B round last year.
