Vision Knight Capital has led a RMB200 million ($29 million) Series C round for Soocas, a Shenzhen-based manufacturer of personal care products such as electric toothbrushes and hairdryers.
Other participants include Kinzon Capital, Greenwoods Investment, Orchid Asia Group, Yunmo Ziben, and existing backer Cathay Capital.
The company received angel funding from local VC firm Rice Bank in 2015. The following year, smart phone maker Xioami and Shunwei Capital - both of which were established by Lei Jun - provided a pre-Series A round. They re-upped in 2017 and were joined by a new investor, Peak Valley Capital. Shunwei returned for the Series B last year alongside Cathay Capital.
Soocas designs and manufactures In addition to producing personal care products, Soocas offers an app that allows customers to customize toothbrushing modes and participate in rewards programs. Those who achieve personal bests in terms of consecutive days of toothbrushing - and share their records through the app - receive credits that can be exchanged for products in the company's online shop.
Soocas claims to have sold over 2.5 million toothbrushes in 2018, occupying the top spot among manufacturers whose products are priced above RMB100
“In my view, the consumption demands of Chinese people should ultimately be met by Chinese brands. This phenomenon has already been seen in industries like household appliances and smart phones. In addition, Soocas knows how to cater to the needs of young Chinese consumers, giving it an advantage over traditional brands such as Philips,” said Fandi Meng, the company's founder.
