Yunfeng leads $50m Series C for China's Yunxuetang
Yunxuetang, a Chinese employee training platform has raised $50 million in a Series C round led by Yunfeng Capital.
Founded in 2011, the company provides learning management systems (LMS) for corporate customers, including those from the real estate, financial services, and consumer retail sectors. The core services – teaching and examination materials – are complemented by a platform that enables companies to create their own education content and distribute it to employees through a video conferencing app.
The company offers 10,000 courses spanning eight industries, with content sourced from nine academies in five countries. According to 36kr, Yunxuetang delivered training courses to more than 10,000 companies with over three million employees in 2015. The new capital will go towards profiling users based on learning behavior and employer, so more customized content can be offered to companies.
Private equity and venture capital investment in China’s education sector has risen in recent years, with aggregate annual commitments crossing the $1 billion threshold for the first time in 2016. Most of this capital has targeted the K-12 space, although it remains to be seen how expected tighter regulations on private sector operators impacts investor sentiment.
Adult and professional training services haven’t proved as popular, although Liulishuo, an app that targets adult English language learners, raised $71.9 million in a US IPO last month. Earlier in the year, CDH Investments completed a carve-out of the professional testing business of US-listed Chinese education player ATA.
Yunxuetang previously raised RMB80 million ($11 million) from Everest Venture in 2014 and then a Series B of $22 million led by SIG Asia in 2017. The company claims to have raised $260 million in total since 2013.
