India bus-hailing app Shuttl gets $11m
Amazon India has led an $11 million Series B funding round for India-based bus-hailing app operator Shuttl, with participation by several other VC investors.
New investor Dentsu Ventures took part in the round, according to a statement, along with existing investors Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Ventures, Times Internet. Amazon India's Alexa Fund, which focuses on voice technology, also joined. The fresh capital is expected to be applied to customer experience improvement, including the addition of more bus routes to the service.
"Millions of people use shared transportation options for their everyday commute," Paul Bernard, a director at Alex, said, according to Livemint. "Voice represents a new, convenient way for them to manage these types of daily routines, and we look forward to supporting Shuttl as they work to deliver this experience to Amazon Alexa customers across India."
Founded in 2015, Shuttl aims to address traffic congestion and pollution challenges in India by providing carbon-efficient, space-efficient, and cost-effective through a bus-hailing platform that also gives bus owners access to training and financing services. The company works with more than 600 buses on about 60 routes and claims to provide 30,000 rides a day across the Delhi and Kolkata regions.
