Tiger Global’s Jason Tan joins Jeneration
Jason Tan (pictured), formerly a global partner at Tiger Global Management, has joined Hong Kong-based investment firm Jeneration Capital as a partner and CIO.
Tan spent nearly four years at Tiger, where he led investments in Asian tech players such as Didi Chuxing, Grab, Meitu, and 58.com. Previously he worked at TA Associates and Summit Capital. He will be responsible for managing Jeneration’s overall portfolio and strategy. Tan’s hiring follows that of Tony Zhang, formerly head of Asia at Coatue Management, last September.
Jeneration sources most of its funding from Chinese technology entrepreneurs and currently has about $2 billion in assets under management. The firm pursues both direct and fund investments, targeting private and public equities globally. Its direct investment strategy focuses on providing growth and expansion capital to technology and tech-enabled companies in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in greater China.
Portfolio companies include online car trading platform Uxin, for which the firm co-led a $500 million round last year alongside TPG Growth and China Vision Capital. Jeneration also participated last year in a $230 million Series C round for online grocer Miss Fresh led by Tiger Global Management and Genesis Capital.
“We are applying our experience with top-tier investment firms and our deep relationships with local entrepreneurs to bring a fresh perspective on how an investment firm should work,” Tan said in a statement. “I’m excited to work with our team to find investments that achieve superior returns for our investors and with our entrepreneurs to create world-changing companies.”
