TPG hires Blackstone executive in Australia
TPG Capital has hired Malcolm Jackson, who currently works for The Blackstone Group in Singapore, as a managing director in its Australia and New Zealand team.
Jackson, who will be based in Melbourne and report to Joel Thickins, comes from New Zealand but has spent the bulk of his career in the UK, working for RBS. As part of the RBS Special Opportunities Fund, he was heavily involved in the establishment of Shawbrook Bank and credit manager Arrow Global Group. In 2014, Jackson moved to Blackstone as part of the tactical opportunities group.
"Malcolm's strong track record of investing in complicated cross border transactions makes him a significant asset to TPG and our efforts in the region," Thickins said in a statement. "Malcolm brings with him a unique skillset and has a deep understanding of investing in financial institutions, which is a core sector of focus for us."
TPG is currently in the market with its seventh pan-Asian fund, targeting between $4 billion and $4.5 billion. Recent activity in Australia includes an investment in medical research player Novotech and the sale of Alinta Energy to Hong Kong’s Chow Tai Fook Enterprises. TPG also teamed up with Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) on a bid for Fairfax Media but this was subsequently withdrawn.
Thickins joined the firm in 2016 from CHAMP Private Equity after previous country head Ben Gray departed to set up BGH Capital.
