Orchid leads $65m round for Chinese wedding platform
Hunliji, a China-based online wedding services provider, has raised $65 million in a Series C round of funding led by Orchid Asia Group.
Existing investors Matrix China Partners and Fosun RZ Capital also contributed capital.
Founded in 2013, Hunliji started as a mobile platform that allowed users to organize their wedding ceremonies - managing budgets, guest lists, and seating arrangements. It has since evolved into a third-party platform, offering a full range of wedding services from bridal make-up to photography.
Hunji claims to connect more than 80,000 Chinese merchants with tens of millions of users, facilitating over RMB1 billion ($158 million) in gross merchandise volume each year. The company turned profitable in 2017.
According to AVCJ Research, Hunliji previously received seed funding from Qingsong Fund in 2013 and a Series A round from Vertex Ventures China the following year. It then raised about $40 million in Series B funding across two tranches, with Matrix and Fosun RZ among the investors.
Following the latest investment, Hunliji plans to develop its product offering, with a view to providing customized services to users by leveraging artificial intelligence technology. In addition, it has launched a RMB200 million industry fund that will invest in peers in the upstream and downstream parts of the value chain.
Orchid Asia closed its seventh fund at $1.3 billion in January. The firm focuses on companies in the consumer products and services sector, as well as outsourcing manufacturing, technology, media, and healthcare.
