
VCs invest $27m in Asian expansion for US-based Yogome
US-based Exceed Capital Partners has led a group of international VCs in a $26.9 million investment aimed at supporting an Asian expansion by domestic educational technology company Yogome.
Additional participation came from Spain’s Seaya Ventures as well as existing investors Mexico’s Variv Capital and US-based Insight Venture Partners. The capital will be applied to expanding operations into China, Japan, Korea and the Philippines.
“Yogome’s innovative educational games have already given millions of children an exciting start to their learning journey,” Victor Hu, CEO and co-founder of Exceed, said in a statement. “Yogome’s aspiration to empower learners and families aligns deeply with where we believe the global education sector is heading, and we look forward to supporting them in their growth going forward.”
Founded in 2012, Yogome focuses on digital learning materials for children that are entertaining as well as academically robust. Products are evaluated at Yale University and include more than 2,000 games, interactive books, and videos in six languages. The company claims to have 6 million monthly active users in more than 50 countries, with most subscribers in Southeast Asia, the US, and Latin America.
Exceed focuses on growth-stage investments in the education sector. Principals at the firm claim to have completed more than 70 transactions in the sector globally during the past five years totaling more than $50 billion in deal value.
