Samena, Cenova in $83m round for Hong Kong’s Virtus Medical
Virtus Medical Holdings, a Hong Kong-based private medical services provider, has raised an $83 million round of funding from Samena Capital and Cenova Capital.
Virtus Medical's management team also committed capital to the round. The medical group was created earlier this year under a partnership model that combines the medical practices of 40 Hong Kong doctors who provide personalized services across a number of specialties from wellness and prevention to treatment and rehabilitation.
The group’s network currently includes 26 specialists in 11 medical centers in the Central and Tsim Sha Tsui areas. It has three multi-disciplinary medical centers with 14 generalists, 159 panel doctors, and 10 panel physiotherapists, serving over 100,000 patient visits per year. It also provides vaccination and health checks in 23 locations in Hong Kong.
The group will open a 15-storey specialist medical center, namely Virtus Medical Tower, in Central this year. In the medium term, it also plans to increase the number of specialists across Hong Kong and Macau to over 100.
“We are excited about the creation of Virtus Medical. The healthcare industry in the region is growing quickly, in particular, the demand for personalized specialist services. Virtus Medical will become a pioneer in that segment in Hong Kong and Macau and expand regionally,” Shirish Saraf, founder and vice chairman of Samena, said in a statement.
Samena is a principal investment group focusing on Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. The firm manages about $1 billion across private equity, direct investments, and credit. Cenova is a Shanghai-based private equity firm that invests in China’s healthcare market.
