NZ Super appoints head of external investments
New Zealand Superannuation Fund has named Del Hart as head of external investments and partnerships.
It follows the departure of Fiona Mackenzie, who stepped down from the post in October to take up a role with brokerage and investment banking firm First NZ Capital. Hart will be responsible for investment mandates with about 30 external mangers covering NZ$6.5 billion ($4.5 million) of assets in listed and unlisted markets globally.
Hart joined NZ Super in 2010 as a portfolio manager. Prior work includes roles at Russell Investments in New Zealand and Pictet Asset Management in the UK, as well as New Zealand’s Tower Managed Funds. According to a release, she will report to Matt Whineray, chief investment officer, and sit on the NZ Super’s investment committee.
NZ Super uses a reference portfolio instead of the strategic asset allocation model. It sets a base allocation of 80% growth and 20% fixed income. Specific asset classes are considered based on whether they can improve the portfolio by increasing the return or reducing the risk.
Earlier this year, the LP participated in a NZ$247 million investment in Kiwibank, a banking and finance services provider controlled by New Zealand Post.
