Ex-Pamplona partner joins KKR in Australia
KKR has appointed David Lang (pictured), previously a partner and founding member at Pamplona Capital Management, as a partner-level executive in its Sydney office. He will start work in early 2018.
Lang, a native Australian, has spent the last 15 years in the UK and the US. He was part of the team that set up Pamplona and went on to reach $10 billion in capital under management across private equity and credit. The firm’s fifth PE fund closed in May at $3.2 billion. Lang has experience investing in sectors ranging from consumer staples and retail to industrials and infrastructure.
“David personifies the global and local nature of KKR's strengths and enables us to offer an even greater array of flexible capital solutions to local institutions and entrepreneurs. David's arrival, and appointment as a fellow member to help me lead the team, reinforces KKR's long-term commitment to the vibrant Australian market,” said Scott Bookmyer, head of KKR Australia, in a statement.
KKR has been investing in Australia through its pan-regional private equity funds since 2006 and opened its office in Sydney in 2007. To date, the firm has deployed more than A$3 billion ($2.3 billion) in the country across its private equity, credit, energy and resources, and real estate businesses.
Since closing its third Asian private equity fund at $9.3 billion in June, KKR has announced investments in Dixon Hospitality, which operates a portfolio of food and beverage outlets, and cosmetic treatments business Laser Clinics Australia. Separately, the firm’s credit unit has secured a buyout of mortgage lender and distressed debt servicer Pepper Group.
