Australia's Airtasker receives $25.7m Series C
Airtasker, an Australian peer-to-peer jobs and services marketplace operator, has raised a A$33 million ($25.7 million) funding round led by Skyfield Capital.
Existing backers Black Sheep Capital, Morning Crest Capital, Exto Partners and Seven West Media also participated. The capital will be used for a UK expansion.
It follows a A$22 million Series B round led by Seven West in 2016 and a A$6.5 million Series A led by Morning Crest in 2015. Other investors in the company include Australia’s National Roads and Motorists Association and BridgeLane Capital, the latter of which contributed to seed funding as early as 2012.
Based in Sydney, Airtasker offers an online platform through which individuals and companies can outsource tasks to other users. Typical jobs include repairs, deliveries, gardening, marketing, design, events, office administration, and computer services. It reportedly connects more than 1.7 million users across Australia and generates some A$90 million in transaction volume per year.
"We're going to jump off a cliff and see if we can fly again,” Tim Fund, Airtasker’s co-founder and CEO, told The Australian Financial Review. “It's like a new start-up and we have to put our start-up hats back on and be agile, humble and push ourselves hard. We're aiming to do what we did here in three years, in nine months in the UK.”
