Riverside invests in Australia energy software player
The Riverside Company has made an investment of undisclosed size in Energy Exemplar, a software provider for the electric power, water, gas and renewables industries.
The investment will support global expansion activities including R&D and marketing efforts as well as acquisitions of complimentary assets. The company is currently active in 47 countries and generates more than 90% of its revenue outside of Australia through the sale of products such as Plexos, an energy market simulation tool.
"Energy Exemplar's product suite and track record is exceptional, with significant room to expand in a fragmented global market with a number of positive industry trends," Nick Speer, a partner at Riverside, said in a statement. "Plexos offers better product features that materially improve the decision-making capability of its sophisticated customers in an environment where complexity is ever-increasing."
It follows efforts by Riverside to sharpen its focus on Australasia with an enhancement of the Melbourne-based investment team. The GP has made four investments in the region to date, including rehabilitation services provider Work Health Group, online education business Learning Seat, waste collection company Waste Services Group, and animal health specialist Simcro.
Riverside makes control and non-control investments in growing businesses across Asia Pacific, with a preference for family-founded or small corporate carve-outs. In addition to software, target sectors include healthcare, education and specialty manufacturing.
The firm claims to have made more than 480 transactions since 1988. It closed its second Asia fund at $235 million in 2014.
