Hamilton Lane opens Australia office
Hamilton Lane has opened an office in Sydney and hired James Martin, who previously spent five years at Partners Group focusing on institutional sales and deal origination, to lead local operations.
Martin, who has joined as a principal, will provide support for the firm’s client base in the region and will lead business development efforts across Australia and New Zealand. Prior to Partners Group, he worked at Pinnacle Investment Management and Macquarie Group.
“We’ve been active in this region for nearly a decade, and are excited to be formally establishing a presence in Australia,” said Mario Giannini, CEO of Hamilton Lane, in a statement. “We believe this expansion will allow us to provide a deeper level of market coverage and client service and we’re pleased to welcome James, who brings a strong understanding of the local market dynamics, challenges and opportunities.”
The firm, which already has a presence in Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo, employs more than 290 professionals in offices throughout the US, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, as well as Asia. As of March, Hamilton Lane had more than $342 billion in total assets under management and supervision across a range of private markets strategies.
Last month, the firm closed its latest global secondaries fund at $1.9 billion. Over the course of 2016, it also raised $516 million for a global fund-of-funds and $210 million for a global credit fund.
