AEA-backed ThreeSixty Group buys US lifestyle brand
AEA Investors-owned ThreeSixty Group, a China and US-based business that designs, sources and distributes consumer products for US retailers, has acquired lifestyle brand The Sharper Image from Iconix Brand Group for $100 million.
Founded in 1999 in Southern California, ThreeSixty has a large-scale Asian operation with offices in Hong Kong and mainland China. It owns or licenses brands and then sources goods such as toys, electronics and home décor products from China for distribution in more than 70,000 stores in the US. The company owns and controls its sourcing capabilities, with a network of 993 active factories as well as in house design, sourcing and quality control teams.
AEA acquired a majority stake in the business in 2015. The private equity firm's other consumer-retail investments in the region include Korea-based children's clothing retailer Suhyang and Hong Kong-headquartered sourcing and distribution conglomerate Li & Fung Group.
ThreeSixty is already the largest licensee for The Sharper Image, which specializes in lifestyle and gadget products ranging from speakers to massage chairs to outdoor apparel. These tend to be sold in department and specialty stores as well as through e-commerce sites.
