Australia's GO1 raises $3m for global push
Australia-based education technology start-up GO1 has received a A$4 million ($3 million) round of funding from a group of domestic and US VCs for its expansion efforts in Asia, North America and Europe.
Investors included Y Combinator, Blue Sky Ventures, Tank Stream Ventures, Black Sheep Capital, Amasia, Full Circle Ventures, and the Queensland government's Business Development Fund. The round values the company at around A$15 million and will be used to hire some 30 additional staff members both in Australia and overseas.
"Australia has a lot going for it in terms of being able to build up a development team and also establish a team in Southeast Asia," GO1 co-founder Andrew Barnes told The Australian Financial Review. "We'll continue to hire more in the US too, as it is a bigger market obviously, but having Australia as the epicenter for what we're doing is actually a competitive advantage if we're trying to compete on the global stage."
GO1 offers learning software that allows client's students, including employees, to complete their formal training online. The company's marketplace contains more than 100,000 courses on topics such as first aid and leadership training. Corporate training management services include tools to create assessment structures and generate custom certificates.
