Rui Ma, Greater China partner at Silicon Valley-based investor 500 Startups, has left the firm and set up her own early-stage fund-of-funds to invest in US GPs.
Based in San Francisco, the fund will target managers specializing in angel and seed-stage rounds for Silicon Valley-based start-ups, according to a statement posted on Ma's official WeChat platform. Most of the capital will be raised from Chinese investors.
Ma will also help US portfolio companies establish local partnerships with Chinese counterparts should they wish to expand into China.
Founded in 2010, 500 Startups is a seed fund and global accelerator program based in California and with presence in more than 50 countries. Ma joined in 2013, taking responsibility for coverage of mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. She previously worked at Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, CITIC Securities and the Raine Group.
