Nexus commits $7m Series A funding to India's Postman
Nexus Venture partners has committed $7 million in Series A funding to Indian software development tool creator Postman.
The company will use the new capital to strengthen its main product, Postman Cloud, a cloud-based application programming interface (API) platform for software developers, the company told YourStory. Postman also plans to build out its team, particularly in the US, where it has offices in San Francisco and Austin, Texas.
Founded in 2014 by a team of programmers, Postman is intended to help developers build, test and share APIs. It claims to have more than 1.5 million active monthly users at 30,000 companies, including Netflix, Walgreens, Cisco and IBM.
APIs, which allow different applications to work together and share information, are an increasingly important part of the software development world since they can help programmers avoid unnecessary duplication of effort or features. For instance, a ride-hailing or food delivery app developer can use an API to bring in Google Maps functionality rather than writing proprietary mapping code.
This is Nexus' second investment in Postman; it invested $1 million in the company last year. The GP is investing out of its fourth India fund, which closed in December at $450 million.
The vehicle, Nexus Ventures IV, focuses on seed and early stage investment opportunities in companies with disruptive business models, particularly in the consumer, financial services, healthcare and education sectors. It includes a $130 million vehicle for later-stage investments in existing portfolio companies. Investments from the fund include a $13.5 million Series C round alongside Matrix Partners India for hotel reservation app Stayzilla and a $51 million Sequoia-led round for cloud data security information management solutions provider Druva.
