PE-backed Go-Jek acquires India home healthcare start-up
Go-Jek, an Indonesian mobile ride-hailing and delivery platform backed by several PE investors, has bought Bangalore-based online home healthcare services platform Pianta, its third acquisition in India.
The move is aimed at bolstering Go-Jek's foray into the healthcare sector through the launch of medicine delivery service Go-Med. The new platform was formed after Go-Jek invested in a $11 million Series A round for Indonesian healthcare services app HaloDoc. As part of the deal, HaloDoc's ApotikAntar app will feature on the Go-Jek platform as Go-Med, with Go-Jek drivers delivering products to patients.
Go-Jek told Livemint that the acquisition of Pianta could also boost its engineering team in India, which focuse on product innovation and mining data to better serve customers in Indonesia. The company previously acquired two Indian software companies, C42 Engineering and CodeIgnition.
Pianta was founded in 2015 by former executives from Ola and Flipkart. The marketplace allows customers to book home visits for physiotherapy, nursing and lab sample collection. Earlier this year, the start-up received seed funding from Freecharge founders Kunal Shah and Sandeep Tandon.
Go-Jek provides motorcycle rides on demand, having formed partnerships with 200,000 motorcycles drivers and 5,000 truck drivers. Over the past three years, its coverage has expanded to include taxi and courier services as well as food delivery. The comany has also entered online-to-offline local services and launched Go-Pay, an e-wallet solution designed for a market in which credit card penetration is below 2%.
Last month, Go-Jek raised $550 million in funding from investors including KKR, Warburg Pincus, Farallon Capital and Capital Group Private Markets.
