TPG hires Ex-MSPEA executive as partner in Korea
TPG Capital has appointed Sanghoon Lee, formerly a managing director with Morgan Stanley Private Equity Asia (MSPEA), as a partner to lead the firm’s investments in South Korea.
Lee has more than 15 years of investment and banking experience in the Korea market, having spent six years with MSPEA. Prior to that, he worked for Merrill Lynch and took charge of M&A and capital market transactions in Korea.
"As active investors in Asia for more than 20 years, we are fortunate to have built strong relationships and industry expertise that have been integral to building businesses across the region," Tim Dattels, Asia managing partner at TPG, said in a statement. "We see Korea, in particular, as a country poised for growth with untapped opportunities across multiple industries."
TPG has invested $8.1 billion in 69 investments across 12 Asian countries since 1994. The firm's investments in South Korea include Korea First Bank and Hanaro Telecom.
The addition of Lee follows a series of key leadership appointments made by TPG in 2016 as the firm looks to strengthen its presence in Asia. These include Jin-Yong Cai, Jia Dong, Daniel Hu, Jinping Sun, and Joel Thickins. The latter, formerly a director at CHAMP Private Equity, was recruited as TPG's Australia country head.
