India biopharma player Vyome gets $14m Series C
Indian biopharmaceutical company Vyome Biosciences has raised a $14 million Series C funding round led by US investors Perceptive Advisors and Romulus Capital.
Vyome's existing backers, including Kalaari Capital, Sabre Partners and Aarin Capital, also participated in the round, according to a statement. The company will use the new capital for further development of its lead product, an acne medication called VB 1953, and for other products in its pipeline.
Founded in 2010, Vyome develops treatments by modifying active agents in molecules based on the genomic information of disease-causing microorganisms. Its acne treatments focus on infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which have been estimated at 40% of cases in the US. It estimates that this patient population represents a potential market of up to $2 billion.
The company's previous investments include a $3.3 million Series A round in 2012 led by IndoUS Venture Partners, with participation by Aarin and Navam Capital. It also raised an $8 million Series B round led by Sabre, with Kalaari and Aarin participating, in 2014.
Perceptive Advisors is a privately owned hedge fund sponsor that focuses on promising technologies in the healthcare sector. Its investments include public biotech, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, as well as private growth-oriented healthcare companies around the world.
