Jaganath Swamy leaves HarbourVest to lead start-up
Jaganath Swamy, a vice-president at HarbourVest Partners, has left the firm to join Good Parents, a health and wellness-focused start-up based in San Francisco and Hong Kong.
Swamy will serve as the CEO of Good Parents, which he co-founded in 2015, he told Livemint. The company designs and manufactures wearable devices aimed at children's health; its first product, the Kiddo, is meant for children aged 3-10 years, and tracks wearers' biometrics in order to provide health, stress and development analytics via a mobile app.
Good Parents has 11 employees in San Francisco and Hong Kong, and so far has raised $2 million in seed funding from Fireside Ventures, Aalto Partners and several strategic and angel investors in Asia and the US. It is currently looking to grow its presence in India, and exploring the possibility of setting up manufacturing and distribution centers and an operations back office there.
Swamy joined HarbourVest in 2013. During his time at the firm he led investments in India and Southeast Asia, pursuing direct co-investments, fund commitments and secondary transactions. Prior to HarbourVest, he served as principal and India head at Northgate Capital from 2011-2012.
HarbourVest has more than 300 employees, including 86 investment professionals, across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. It has committed more than $30 billion to newly-formed funds globally, completed over $13 billion in secondary purchases, and made $5 billion in direct investments. Last year the firm opened an office in South Korea; it is the firm's fourth base in Asia and the ninth globally.
