VCs invest $44m in China mobile app developer DotC United
DotC United, a Hong Kong-based mobile app publisher, has raised a RMB300 million ($44 million) Series A round of funding from several Chinese VC investors, including Banyan Capital and Chengwei Capital.
Morningside Venture Capital, Bertelsmann Asia Investment (BAI) and Lightspeed China Partners also participated.
Launched in 2015 by mobile advertising firm Avazu Holdings, DotC United has already developed three mobile apps available in the Google Play store, including wifi management tool Swift Wifi and mobile keyboard app Flash Keyboard. The two apps have already attracted more than 20 million daily users.
Parent company Avazu was founded in 2009, and it raised $48 million in series A financing from Chinese investors in 2014. One year after, Avazu was acquired by Shenzhen-listed Chinese online gaming firm Zeus Entertainment.
In addition to DotC United, Avazu launched app distribution platform Teebik and start-up investment fund aFund in 2014. AFund has already invested in more than 20 Chinese companies.
With the new investment, DotC United plans to develop more popular mobile apps for international users, Yi Shi, Avazu's founder, told local media 36kr.
