Tiger invests $15m in Indian fashion site Roposo
Tiger Global has invested $15 million in Indian fashion-oriented social network Roposo.
The company, whose other backers include Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal, said in a statement that it will use the funds to grow its global team, reinforce its technological infrastructure and improve its product. Currently Roposo claims to have over 1 million active users, predominately women aged 16-35 in Indian cities and towns.
Founded in 2013, Roposo's strategy combines social media with e-commerce. The social network allows users to share and discuss different fashion brands; they can then shop for the brands themselves through the e-commerce portal. Designers, stylists, fashion bloggers and other celebrities can also reach out to their fans directly through the social aspect of the platform.
Roposo hosts more than 4,000 brands in over 300 online stores on the platform. It is accessed through Android and iOS apps, and a web portal is under construction.
Tiger Global has been involved with Roposo since March, when it led the company's $5 million Series A round. India Quotient and Binny Bansal, who participated in Roposo's $1 million seed round, also participated in the Series A round.
