Tiger Global leads Series A for Indian social network Roposo
Indian fashion-centric social network Roposo has raised $5 million in Series A funding led by Tiger Global.
India Quotient and Binny Bansal, who both participated in the company's $1 million seed round, contributed capital. Bansal is the co-founder and COO of online marketplace Flipkart.
Roposo's platform allows users to view clothing, footwear and accessories from 150 online stores. Based on users' behavior, the site changes the offerings to suit their preferences. Currently the platform is offered via Android and iOS apps, with a web portal under development.
Roposo's parent company, Relevant E-Solutions, also manages Giveter, a site that recommends gift ideas to users. Giveter launched before Roposo and uses some of the same programming.
Avinash Saxena, the company's co-founder, said in a statement: "Fashion discovery is an untouched space in India and our technology team has come up with unique ways to make this search highly intuitive."
Roposo will use the new funding to strengthen its product offering.
Tiger Global has backed a number of Indian and Chinese e-commerce start-ups. Notably, the firm has been a significant supporter of Flipkart. Flipkart itself acquired Indian fashion retailer Myntra last year.
