India's HealthifyMe gets $6m Series A round
IDG Ventures, Inventus Capital and Blume Ventures have led a $6 million Series A round for Indian health and fitness app developer HealthifyMe.
HealthifyMe will use the new capital to further develop its flagship health coaching platform, as well as to reach out to corporate customers to promote its corporate wellness program. The company will also increase its partnerships with health institutions. It plans to have five million users - up from the current 500,000 - and 500 corporate and healthcare partners by 2018.
Founded in 2012, HealthifyMe was incubated by Microsoft Ventures and raised a pre-Series A round a year ago from phone maker Micromax and a group of individual investors. The company employs 150 people, including 100 nutrition and exercise coaches, at its offices in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
Users can keep track of their exercise progress and food intake via the HealthifyMe mobile app, which syncs with many wearable fitness trackers. More personalized services are available through a tiered pricing model - premium levels include meetings with nutrition and exercise coaches online and over the phone, and membership of fitness communities.
In recent years a number of companies leveraging technology to let Indian consumers manage their healthcare more effectively have received PE interest. Last July, Tiger Global led a $12 million Series B round for doctor search platform Lybrate, and in August Tencent led a $90 million Series C round for clinic management developer and doctor search portal Practo.
