Singapore doctor discovery platform DocDoc raises $8.5m
DocDoc, the Singapore-based start-up behind the Asian doctor discovery platform of the same name, has raised a Series A round worth S$11.5 million ($8.5 million) from US and Korea-based SparkLabs Global Ventures, and Malaysian conglomerate Hong Leong Group.
The investment marks SparkLabs' first Southeast Asia deal.
DocDoc - which counts 500 Startups among its previous seed stage backers - was set up in 2012 with a view to targeting the growing medical tourism sector. Covering Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea and India, it allows users to search for healthcare professionals by clinical interest and sub-specialty, and find information on their academic credentials and achievements.
Bookings can also be made via the online platform or through a mobile device.
"DocDoc is in a most fortuitous position to build a world leading company out of Singapore," said Cole Sirucek, DocDoc's co-founder and CEO, in statement. "Southeast Asia is already the capital of the world for medical tourism and so it makes a lot of sense that the world's leading doctor discovery engine comes from here."
