China VC firm Qiming announces promotions
China’s Qiming Venture Partners has announced the promotion of several staff members, including Stella Zhou (pictured), who is the first person to be elevated from associate to partner within the firm.
Zhou joined Qiming in 2010 and went on to advise a number of significant investments including auto services company Tuhu, travel platform Mafengwo, and Musical.ly, a social networking service that was acquired in a deal said to be worth up to $1 billion. She was praised by Qiming for understanding youth demographics and is currently the youngest partner at the firm.
Oscar Zhang and Jinda Gao were both promoted from vice presidents to principals within the healthcare team. Both Zhang and Gao joined Qiming in 2015 and have been cited for effective decision-making guidance and post-investment management. Meanwhile, Alex Yan, an associate in the consumer and internet team, has taken on the role of vice president.
"Our culture fully recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the development of our firm and our portfolio companies in the past and will continue to do so in the future," Duane Kuang, a managing partner at Qiming, said in a statement. "They bring the best and most sustainable returns to our funds and serve as the bridge and bond between us and our investee companies."
Qiming has offices in Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong, and manages seven US dollar funds and five renminbi funds with $4 billion of assets under management in China. Other recent appointments include the rehiring of former partner Steven Hu to focus on consumer and internet.
