Paypal launches fintech incubator in Singapore
PayPal has launched an incubation program in Singapore that will offer infrastructure, mentorship and direction to local financial technology start-ups. It will begin operations in June.
The nine-month program known as Start Tank is also expected to offer access to funding through PayPal's network and VC connections. "Access to talent and connections from within the PayPal team and outside is unprecedented," the company said in a statement.
Mentorship will be provided by PayPal executives and external experts on subjects including risk compliance, core payment networks and channel partnering. The program will be available to companies that have already received seed-stage funding and that are based in Singapore or willing to relocate to Singapore.
PayPal launched its first Asian incubator in India in 2013 in partnership with start-up networking organization The Indus Entrepreneurs Chennai. Alumni from this program include recruitment analytics company PiQube, customer relations service provider D-Rewards and messaging platform Notifie.
Mobile payments group FT Cash also received early-stage support under the program and was recently selected as part of the FinTech 20 India, a list of promising companies in the Indian fintech sector compiled by European start-up promotional group FinTechCity.
