Anthem Asia backs Myanmar PR agency
Anthem Asia, a recently established private equity firm based in Myanmar, has invested in Blink, a PR and digital marketing agency.
Financial details were not disclosed but Anthem is understood to have obtained a significant minority stake.
The start-up is headed by group of enterpreneurs led by local TV presenter Stephen Kyaw and digital specialist Erik Oo.
"The Blink team represents the future of the new Myanmar-young, smart, energetic with bags of ambition," said Josephine Price, co-founder and managing director of Anthem, in a statement. "With a population estimated at more than 60 million people, the demand for locally-based marketing and communications expertise will become more important as Myanmar becomes a significant Southeast Asian market in the coming years."
Anthem was set up by Price in early 2012 with Genevieve Heng. Both are former executives with CLSA Capital Partners Asia. The firm focuses on domestic businesses in sectors such as consumer goods and services, tourism and travel, manufacturing, distribution, logistics and agri-business.
In September last year, Anthem invested $1 million in office rental firm Hintha Business Centers (HBC), its first deal in the country. The company runs serviced offices in the center of Yangon.
Anthem's maiden fund has already raised an undisclosed sum, bringing it to a first close. Investors include the principals, individual Asian investors and a family office.
