Ex-TPG Growth executive joins Singapore’s Jungle Ventures
Singapore-based Jungle Ventures has appointed David Gowdey, previously of TPG Capital’s growth investment unit, as a managing partner.
The VC firm, which is currently raising its second South Asia fund, now has a four-strong managing partner team. Gowdey joins co-founders Anurag Srivastava and Amit Anand, and Jayesh Parekh, co-founder of Sony Entertainment Television India, who came on board in 2013.
Gowdey will be based in Singapore from where he will participate in Series A and B investments with a focus on the consumer internet sector.
He joined TPG Growth in 2012, concentrating on internet and technology deals outside of the US. Past investments include Propertyguru, which raised a $129 million round of funding earlier this year from TPG, Australia's Square Peg Capital, and Indonesian media company Emtek Group. Gowdey will continue to represent TPG as a board member at Propertyguru.
Before TPG, Gowdey spent 12 years at Yahoo where he was head of international M&A. He then spun out to launch Xplorer Capital, a venture capital firm that made internet investments across the emerging markets.
"Our vision has always been to invest and help build regional and global tech category leaders from Asia and David's many years of experience in the tech space and deep network around the globe make him a great asset to Jungle and our portfolio companies," Anand said in a statement.
Founded in 2012, Jungle has backed around 30 companies, including TradeGecko, Fastacash, Crayondata, Livspace, iMoney, Zipdial and TravelMob. The latter two were acquired by Twitter and NASDAQ-listed HomeAway, respectively.
Earlier this month, Jungle appointed Ratan Tata - chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, holding company for Indian conglomerate Tata Group - as a special advisor.
