
Tiger Global leads $31m Series D round for India's Freshdeck
Tiger Global Management has led a $31 million Series D round of investment in India's Freshdesk, a provider of a software-as-a-service (SaaS) customer support platform.
Accel Partners and Google Capital also took part in the round.
Freshdesk was set up by in 2010 and is based in Chennai and the US. Its cloud-based platform aims to make it easier for brands to talk to their customers and for users to get in touch with businesses. The company provides both email and website integration customer support and has more recently launched phone-based Twitter and Facebook support.
The start-up claims to work with more than 20,000 businesses and organizations around the world. It counts firms such as MakeMyTrip, Pearson, Stanford School of Medicine and Toshiba among its clients.
This latest round brings Freshdeck's total VC fundraising to $44 million. Accel was the earliest investor, committing $1 million in late 2011. Accel and General Atlantic provided the next two rounds between them, investing $5 million in 2012 and $6.9 million in 2013.
Freshdesk will use the latest round of funding to ramp up its international sales and marketing and invest in research and development.
Freshdesk competes with Zendesk which is backed by the likes of Matrix Partners, Redpoint Ventures, GGV Capital and Charles River Ventures. The firm recently raised about $100 million through an IPO.
