Former Baidu COO David Zhu joins GGV Capital
David Zhu, former chief operating officer of Chinese internet giant Baidu, has joined GGV Capital as a partner.
Zhu has more than 15 years of experience in the IT industry and over 11 years managerial experience. He was COO at Baidu between 2002 and 2007. Zhu specializes in business operation, sales and marketing, and corporate management across the internet, software and IT consulting segments.
GGV, a US- and China-focused venture capital firm, was an early investor and board member of Baidu. Founded in 2000, the search engine went public in the US in 2005.
"David brings unique insight into the relationship between large companies and start-ups companies, and the partnership opportunities and the operational challenges for each one," Jixun Foo, managing Director of GGV Capital, said in a statement.
"As the US and China tech economies continue to convergence, David's experience will be invaluable in helping our portfolio companies navigate these important changes."
In October, GGV hired Hans Tung, formerly Beijing managing partner at Qiming Venture Partners. He is based in Silicon Valley but is part of GGV's single team that invests across the US and China.
