
China’s Capital Today invests in Home Original Chicken
Capital Today has committed RMB129 million ($21 million) for a 10% stake in Home Original Chicken, a Chinese fast food chain.
The funding will be used to expand Home Original Chicken's footprint to other cities in China, the company said. Founded in 2012, it operates 259 shops in Shanghai as wel as Anhui and Jiangsu provinces.
Last year, Capital Today exited Kungfun Catering Management for $16.05 million to an undisclosed party. The PE firm bought a minority stake for $7.91 million in 2007, implying a 1.67x return on its investment.
Launched by Kathy Xu, formerly an executive at Baring Private Equity Asia, Capital Today's past investments include Hong Kong fast food chain Tsui Wah Holdings, e-commerce sites JD.com and ihush.com, and other digital assets such as insurance telesales company 8ins.com, travel website Uzai.com and video domain Tudou.com.
