Nexus invests $2.5m in Housing.co.in
Nexus Venture Partners will back Indian real estate search portal Housing.co.in with $2.5 million in funding to help expand its technology and data teams.
The 11-month-old start-up uses a map interface to list properties in Mumbai, Pune, Gurgaon and Hyderabad. It provides information like amenities in the area and other details overlaid on a map to help users with better decision-making.
The portal will enhance this data capability with features like area-based pricing and building ratings. The funding will also go towards a headquarters for the 30-member technology team and the creation of a data science lab offering insight and research reports to customers.
Housing.co.in was founded by students at the Indian Institute of Technology - Bombay. It has received two rounds of angel funding this year - from a group led by Zishaan Hayath, the co-founder of Chaupati Bazaar, and from Haresh Chawla, a partner at India Value Fund Advisors.
In the same segment, online real estate portal PropTiger raised $5 million from Accel Partners and SAIF Partners in April 2012.
Accel has also backed a property search portal called Commonfloor. It was first funded in 2009, and received a Series B round to expand business operations in 2012 from Accel and Tiger Global Management.
