Anand Prasanna leaves Squadron Capital
Anand Prasanna, an investment director at Squadron Capital has left the firm after five years to join another Asia-focused fund-of-funds. He will start his new job in mid-December.
The announcement comes two weeks after Squadron was acquired by US-based fund-of-funds FLAG Capital. Squadron's 23-person team in Hong Kong - 22 now Prasanna has departed - will absorb the two investment professionals FLAG has based in the region and the two firms will launch a joint fund next year.
Prasanna, known to many in the industry as Anand RP, grew up in southern India and founded a computer hardware business on graduation before pursuing an MBA at business school in Delhi. He worked as an energy consultant at McKinsey & Company, handling assignments across the Asia Pacific region, and then moved to Sequoia Capital's India operation.
Four years on, Prasanna joined Squadron but continued his involvement in angel investing, relying on networks cultivated at Sequoia. Earlier this year he injected INR2.5 million ($45,000) in Indian car rental booking portal Taxiguide.in.
"Since Sequoia times and even before, I used to like supporting people who are starting an enterprise," Prassana told AVCJ in July. "Mostly I've supported them by giving them free advice or putting them in touch with investors but sometimes people I know very well have wanted capital, so I've participated in friends-and-family rounds."
