Blackstone appoints ex-Archer partner as Australia senior advisor
The Blackstone Group has appointed James Carnegie as a senior advisor based in Sydney, where he will focus primarily on developing the firm’s private equity activity in Australia. He previously spent seven years at Archer Capital, leaving the local GP in mid-2011, and before that worked at Macquarie Capital.
"James has deep knowledge of the market and a great track record as an investor," said Michael Chae, senior managing director and head of private equity for Asia Pacific. "We have worked closely with James in the past, and are confident that his addition to our team in a senior role will strengthen our pursuit of attractive opportunities in Australia on behalf of our limited partners."
Last year Blackstone named Paul Costello, who stepped down as general manager of Future Fund in 2010, as non-executive chairman for Australia and New Zealand.
Costello's appointment came shortly after the private equity firm agreed to buy Antares Restaurant Group, which operates the Burger King franchise in New Zealand, from Anchorage Capital Partners.
Blackstone's recent investments in Australia have come in real estate. It picked up debt-burdened Valad Property Group for A$806 million ($835 million) in August 2011 and paying $9.4 billion for the US assets of Centro Properties Group.
