
Landman to head up BlackRock’s Australia alternatives unit
Andrew Landman, CEO of Ascalon Capital, will join BlackRock as head of alternatives in Australia.
Landman has more than 18 years of experiences in alternative assets. He has developed the Ascalon portfolio to include nine single-strategy hedge and high-conviction funds across Australia and Asia Pacific with $4.2 billion in assets under management. He is also the head of imvestment strategy at BT Financial Group, Ascalon's parent company.
"Andrew's appointment reflects our desire to expand on our position in Australia, one of the most advanced and established markets in the region," Rick Arney, head of hedge funds for BlackRock Alternative Investors said. "Demand from our clients for alternative investments is increasing as they seek to capture opportunities that maximize returns."
Joseph Pacini, head of BlackRock's alternatives business in Asia ex Japan, will lead the Australian alternatives business until Landman joins the firm.
BlackRock Alternative Investors offers private equity, hedge funds, fund-of-hedge-funds, real estate, renewable power and other specialized products. As at March 31, BlackRock had approximately $110 billion in alternative assets globally, of which $20 billion comes from the Asia Pacific region.
