
KKR appoints former director of India's central bank as senior advisor
KKR has appointed former director of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) D.S. Brar as a senior advisor in India, charged with providing input on the firm’s Asia portfolio management committee.
Brar served as RBI's director from 2000 to 2007, and was also a member of the inspection and audit sub-committee of RBI's central board of directors. He additionally held the post of CEO and managing director of domestic pharmaceutical major Ranbaxy Laboratories from 1999, and later invested in life sciences research firm GVK Biosciences.
Brar currently holds board positions in several domestic and overseas companies including Mphasis, a subsidiary of Hewlett Packard, Maruti Suzuki India, Moksha8 and Adamas Pharmaceuticals. He is also a member of the National Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
"D.S. Brar is one of the most respected business managers in India," Sanjay Nayar, head of KKR India, said in a release. "He has a breadth of business, economic and government experience, and we are very pleased he will bring his expertise to bear on our current and prospective investments as a senior advisor to the firm."
