DFJ's Tim Draper invests in Singaporean VC incubator
Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ) founding partner Tim Draper has invested an undisclosed sum in Singaporean tech incubation firm Clearbridge Accelerator.
Calling Draper a "super-angel," Clearbridge Accelerator will use the funding to strengthen its incubation platform, expand its team and bolster its support infrastructure, according to a release.
Clearbridge Accelerator is the newly launched Singapore incubation and early stage venture arm of Asian VC firm Clearbridge Partners. Its team is comprised of Singaporean tech entrepreneurs and scientists who aim to commercialize emerging and disruptive technologies to promote Singaporean and global industries, maintaining a focus on areas such as biomedical devices, nanotechnology, advanced material sciences and computational algorithms.
Clearbridge Accelerator was also selected by the Singapore National Research Foundation as a government-supported incubator under the Technology Incubator Scheme, whose mandate is to nurture early stage technology start-ups.
"I am enthusiastic about Singapore's start-up scene, especially with what I have observed in the last few years. I see a growing and thriving community where smart entrepreneurs are working alongside scientists who are pushing out cutting‐edge, innovative technologies," Draper said in a statement. "Investing into Clearbridge Accelerator is an exciting opportunity for me to participate in this vibrant technology scene in the medical technology and advanced materials sector, while generating more potential deal flow for DFJ."
